The history of Peugeot is not simply the story of a range of motor cars. However, it was the motor car that made Peugeot famous and enabled it to carve out an international reputation for itself in all these areas. This extraordinary industrial growth was due to Armand Peugeot, who was the first to have faith in the motor car, introducing a steam-driven three-wheel vehicle at the 1889 World Fair. He later quickly saw the possibilities offered by the oil engine and, once they were convinced of its success, the family got right behind him, in the process turning Peugeot into one of the most powerful industrial empires of Europe and, indeed, the world over the following years.
