Toyota's decision to establish a manufacturing operation in Europe was announced in 1989 and Toyota Manufacturing UK was established in December that year. There are two manufacturing plants in the UK representing a total investment in excess of £1.7 billion and currently over 4,700 members are employed. The vehicle manufacturing plant is located at Burnaston in Derbyshire, the engine manufacturing plant is located at Deeside in North Wales.
The first car, a Carina E, drove off the Burnaston production line on 16 December 1992. The Avensis replaced the Carina E in 1997 and in 2003 the new generation Avensis was launched. In 1998 a second model, the Corolla, was introduced and in 2001 the new generation Corolla was launched. The processes at Burnaston include stamping, welding, painting, plastic mouldings and assembly and at Deeside machining, assembly and aluminium casting.

Toyota MRS-Spider or otherwise known in the UK as the MR2-Roadster which is finished in silver with a black hood. It is newly imported from Japan and is a stunning example and a real head turner. The MR-s convertible looks every bit as exciting as it performs and the soft top has an easy raise/lower mechanism that leaves it perfectly flat when not in use - there's no need for a separate cover.
Buying an import has many benefits such as better condition due to lower mileage, higher specification list and options which may not be available in this country. Gone are the days where parts and insurance were a problem. Your Toyota can now be serviced at Toyota where apart from the odd trim panel the parts are the same. Also with the ever increasing amount of imported cars on the road insurance has become very competitive.
My MR-S is just being registered in the UK right now and I will have the registration certificate by the 5th of October. It is garaged at night, and is immaculate throughout. The roof is in mint condition with no rips, tears or leaks. The car was manufactured in June2000 and has only 8,000 genuine miles. I will have the car serviced at a mail dealer before collection. It has a 1.8 VVTI engine (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) which is very good on fuel economy doing 38 MPG while delivering responsive acceleration. It is a low insurance group and is fitted with a new cat 1 sigma alarm.
